[REVIEW] Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet—Deadly Kidnapping

The Detective Conan franchise has released its newest film, Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet.

The film, which premiered in Japan on April 16, 2021, was highly anticipated, especially by fans of the Detective Conan anime.

Unmitigated, the storyline presented in this film does not escape giving the impression of a mystery typical of the Detective Conan series.

With a total duration of 110 minutes, the writer was so impressed because this time, Conan and the FBI will reveal the mystery of the kidnapping case that coincided with the inauguration of the World Sports Games sporting event.

Curious?

Come on, first read the review of Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet from the author so that you are even more sure to watch it!

1. The tragic inauguration of the World Sports Games

[REVIEW] Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet—Deadly Kidnapping

Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet begins with a festive inauguration event that will be held because Japan will be the host of a prestigious sporting event called the World Sports Games (WSG).

Unmitigated, the inauguration of the superfast linear superconducting vacuum train was also carried out as a promotion for the WSG event.

Conan, Ran, Sonoko, and their friends were also invited to this event.

However, when the lights suddenly went out, Conan found a flash of light and realized that Sonoko's father, Shiro Suzuki, had disappeared among the crowd.

While mobilizing the police to look for Suzuki, Conan eventually finds him tied up in the kitchen.

Suzuki finally gave his testimony to the police about what happened.

He also said that Eiko Mitsuka, who was involved as a sponsor in WSG, had also been kidnapped before.

Feeling something was off, Conan finally moved with the FBI agents to investigate this case.

They found that this event was quite similar to the kidnapping case that also occurred during the WSG inauguration in Boston 15 years ago.

The case is also the kidnapping of sponsors and has killed the owner of a car company from Detroit at the time.

In order to prevent the same incident from happening again, the owner of a leading Japanese car company, John Foyd, was monitored so that he would not be kidnapped.

However, the kidnapper was no less clever, he managed to take John out and tie him to a pedestrian bridge far from the WSG location.

Apparently, not only was John kidnapped, Alan Mackenzie as the President of WSG and Director of the FBI was also kidnapped in this incident.

As expected from the Detective Conan anime, this film again presents a solid and tense storyline.

The story of revenge for the events in Boston is indeed a good basis as a background.

Not to mention, some epic scenes from Conan and the FBI in finding the mastermind behind the kidnapping and stopping the train accident really amazed the writer.

You could say, this film is a champion in terms of story and does not disappoint at all.

2. The intuition of the characters in the film does not disappoint at all

[REVIEW] Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet—Deadly Kidnapping

Like other Detective Conan series and films, Conan Edogawa can always think brilliantly in catching criminals, and this time Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet is no exception.

However, what makes this film special is that Conan also works closely with FBI agents, from Jodie Starling, James Black, Andre Camel, to a skilled sniper named Shuuichi Akai.

Interestingly, Conan's always precise intuition surprised even his colleagues at the FBI.

Not only that, Shuukichi Haneda, who is also a Shogi expert and brother of Shuuichi Akai, also helped in the pursuit of the perpetrator.

Everything was done with Shuukichi's careful plan and prediction so that the perpetrators could be caught perfectly.

The characters in the film this time did give a pretty cool contribution in catching the perpetrators of this kidnapping.

3. TMS Entertainment never fails to work on Detective Conan

[REVIEW] Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet—Deadly Kidnapping

The film Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet returns to present various tense epic scenes with extraordinary designs and animations.

Not only are the chase scenes beautifully made, the atmosphere when the vacuum superconducting linear train loses control and goes off the track in a tense situation continues to impress the writer.

Everything was done very well by TMS Entertainment as the production house of this film.

TMS Entertainment itself is indeed the production house of the entire series and films of Detective Conan.

Even this time, the studio is still giving its best effort and totality in the making of this 24 Detective Conan film.

No wonder, yes, if Detective Conan is still so iconic for most anime fans.

4. The theme song Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet is performed by the band Tokyo Incident

In addition to presenting suspenseful background music and supporting every scene, Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet also collaborates with the band Tokyo Incident as the theme song performer.

The band, better known as Tokyo Jihen, performed the song "The Scarlet Alibi" in this film.

The song, which is dominated by piano strains, also has lyrics that are quite relatable to the storyline in this film.

FYI, Tokyo Incident is a band that has debuted since 2003, you know.

Despite their long debut, the band went on hiatus in 2012 and returned to activity in 2020.

In addition to performing the theme song for the film Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet, Tokyo Incident also performed the song for the anime D_Cide Traumerei the Animation.

5. Chika Nagaoka has a lot of experience working on Detective Conan films

[REVIEW] Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet—Deadly Kidnapping

Detective Conan has indeed released dozens of films over the years.

Chika Nagaoka as the director in Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet also turned out to have also worked on at least six previous Detective Conan films.

Taking on the role of unit director as well as storyboard assistant in previous films, Nagaoka finally became the director again in this 24th Detective Conan film.

With his extensive experience working on Detective Conan films, the results are beyond expectations and satisfying for most fans.

Who would have thought, the film Conan: The Scarlet Bullet managed to rank second as the highest-grossing domestic film for 2021 in Japan.

Unmitigated, the income that has been obtained by this film is more than 7.65 billion yen, or the equivalent of Rp. 959 billion, you know.

The film Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet is one of the author's favorite films of all Detective Conan films that the author has watched.

Not only superior in terms of story, character to design and music make this film even more interesting.

Not to mention, the direction of Chika Nagaoka also made this film very successful.

Therefore, this film deserves a 5/5 score from the author.
