Netflix's 'Little House on the Prairie' Reboot Just Hit 9.8 Million Views — And Season 2 Is Already Greenlit

Little House on the Prairie Netflix reboot 2026

Luke Bracey and Alice Halsey Lead a Frontier Reboot That Honors the Original While Finding Its Own Voice

Netflix's ambitious reimagining of Little House on the Prairie has officially become one of the biggest streaming hits of summer 2026. The series, which premiered on July 9, 2026, racked up 9.8 million views in its second week alone — enough to claim the No. 1 spot on Netflix's TV chart and beat out Will Ferrell's comedy The Hawk. And here's the kicker: Netflix renewed it for a second season before the first one even aired.

Back to the Prairie — But Not as You Remember It

The new adaptation follows the Ingalls family as they head west to the Kansas prairie, staying truer to Laura Ingalls Wilder's original books than the beloved 1970s TV series did. Luke Bracey (of Point Break and Hacksaw Ridge fame) stars as Charles "Pa" Ingalls, while newcomer Alice Halsey (fresh off roles in Lessons in Chemistry and Days of Our Lives) takes on the role of young Laura Ingalls.

The cast also includes Crosby Fitzgerald, Skywalker Hughes, and in a move that sent fans into a frenzy, original series star Alison Arngrim (who played Nellie Oleson in the '70s show) makes a cameo appearance in Episode 2 — a moment the writers specifically crafted as a love letter to longtime fans.

Reviews Are Mostly Positive — But It's Not Without Critics

The Rotten Tomatoes score for Netflix's Little House on the Prairie is largely favorable, with critics praising the production values, performances, and the show's willingness to tackle harder themes that the original series only touched on. However, not everyone is on board. The New Yorker offered a more skeptical take, suggesting that the reboot sometimes prioritizes "sunlit joylessness" over the warmth that made the '70s version a cultural touchstone.

Luke Bracey himself has spoken about the "main delineation" between the reboot and the original, noting that while both share core values about family and frontier survival, the Netflix version takes a more grounded, sometimes darker approach to the source material. Variety reported that the show's writer specifically reached out to Arngrim to land her cameo — a move that's earned praise from fans of the original series.

Season 2 and Beyond

With 6.4 million views in its first four days and nearly 10 million by the end of week two, Netflix clearly made the right call renewing early. The streaming giant has positioned Little House on the Prairie as a potential franchise pillar alongside properties like Stranger Things and Squid Game — proof that sometimes the most powerful stories are the ones that have already stood the test of time.

Little House on the Prairie is streaming now on Netflix, with Season 2 confirmed.
