DC just dropped a bombshell for Batman fans everywhere. Batman: Knightfall Part 1, the first installment in a planned animated trilogy based on the iconic 1990s comic book storyline, officially hit digital platforms on August 25, 2026. Directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams, the film is adapted from the legendary Knightfall comic arc by Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench, and Graham Nolan. It premiered at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival before arriving on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango, and other digital storefronts. The Story: Bane Unleashes Chaos on Gotham

The film follows Batman at his most vulnerable. After Bane destroys Arkham Asylum and releases every single inmate into Gotham City, the Dark Knight is forced into an exhausting, city-wide manhunt. Tracking down escaped villains one by one — from The Riddler to dozens of other dangerous criminals — leaves Bruce Wayne physically shattered and mentally drained. The stakes keep escalating until Batman finally confronts Bane himself, the mysterious mastermind behind it all.

The Voice Cast Is Stacked

The voice lineup for this film is seriously impressive. Anson Mount (of Star Trek: Discovery fame) steps behind the cowl as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Michael Mando (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) brings terrifying intensity to Bane. Pablo Schreiber (Halo, Orange Is the New Black) voices Jean-Paul Valley/Azrael, the complex antihero who eventually takes up the Batman mantle. Jack Giffin plays Tim Drake/Robin, while Bruce Boxleitner rounds out the cast as Commissioner Gordon and David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad) tackles The Riddler.

With talent like this, it's clear DC and Warner Bros. Animation aren't treating this as just another direct-to-video release. This is an event.

This is only Part 1 of three. Part 2 is planned for later in 2026, while Part 3 will wrap up the saga in 2027. The trilogy will adapt the complete Knightfall saga, including Bane's takeover, Azrael's violent stint as Batman, and the inevitable return of Bruce Wayne.
