The Testaments Season 2 Is Officially Renewed — Here's What to Expect From Hulu's Handmaid's Tale Follow-Up

If you thought we were leaving Gilead behind after The Handmaid's Tale wrapped up, think again. Hulu has already renewed The Testaments for a second season — and they did it before Season 1 even hit its finale. That's not just a vote of confidence; that's Hulu basically saying, "We're all-in on this franchise for the long haul."

Based on Margaret Atwood's 2019 sequel novel, The Testaments picks up the dystopian torch from Elisabeth Moss's iconic run as June Osborne and shifts the focus to a new generation of women trapped inside — and fighting against — the Republic of Gilead. And after a explosive first season, fans are hungry for more.

What Just Went Down in Season 1

The Season 1 finale, which aired on May 27, 2026, was an absolute rollercoaster. Chase Infiniti delivered a breakout performance as Agnes, a young woman raised in privilege within Gilead whose entire world unravels when her engagement is broken off following the murder of Dr. Grove, played by Randal Edwards.

Meanwhile, Mattea Conforti shone as Becka — Aunt Lydia's adopted daughter — in what might be the most emotionally devastating arc of the season. Episode 9 revealed that Becka was actually behind her father's murder, a twist that recontextualized everything we thought we knew. The finale saw her forced into a marriage with Garb (Brad Alexander) while her mother took the fall for the killing. In a scene that broke the internet, Becka and Agnes shared a kiss before the ceremony — romantic tension that practically demands a Season 2 payoff.

And then there's Lucy Halliday as Daisy, June's daughter, who broke back into Gilead to save Becka's life — proving that the rebellion is far from over.

What We Know About Season 2

Here's the deal: production hasn't started yet. Hulu dropped the renewal announcement on May 20, 2026, just days before the finale. So don't expect new episodes anytime soon — our best guess puts Season 2 somewhere in mid-to-late 2027.

But here's the exciting part: Season 1 only covered part of Atwood's novel. That means there's still a ton of source material left to adapt. Expect the core cast to return — Chase Infiniti, Mattea Conforti, Lucy Halliday, and Ann Dowd as the unforgettable Aunt Lydia. The mid-season origin episode for Aunt Lydia was already one of the strongest hours of television this year, and there's clearly more of her story to tell.

The Testaments is streaming on Hulu in the US and Disney+ internationally. If you haven't caught up with Season 1 yet, now's the perfect time to binge before Season 2 drops.
