The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Is Now Available on Digital

If you missed The Super Mario Galaxy Movie in theaters, good news: Nintendo and Universal's animated blockbuster finally hit digital platforms this week. After absolutely dominating the 2026 box office and cementing itself as the highest-grossing movie of the year, the Mario Bros sequel is ready for home viewing — complete with over an hour of behind-the-scenes bonus features.

The digital release was originally scheduled for May 5 but was deliberately delayed to squeeze every last dollar out of the theatrical run. Smart move, honestly — it worked. The film earned so much in cinemas that the studio had zero reason to rush streaming. But now you can rent it for $24.99 or buy it outright for $29.99 on Prime Video, Apple TV, Vudu, and other PVOD platforms. Prime Video is even offering a bundle with both Super Mario movies for just $39.99.

Star-Studded Voice Cast That Deserves a Rewatch

What makes this sequel such a must-watch isn't just the gorgeous galaxy-hopping animation — it's the expanded cast. Brie Larson joins as Rosalina, bringing real emotional weight to the cosmic storyline. Donald Glover voices Yoshi, and his charm is exactly what the lovable dinosaur needed. And then there's the surprise no one saw coming: Glen Powell as Star Fox (aka Fox McCloud), a character Nintendo kept locked under wraps until premiere day.

IGN's Clint Gage called the film "bigger and shinier" than the original, praising how it "racks up some extra lives by stuffing Easter eggs into the runtime to the point of bursting." While it didn't quite match the critical highs of 2023's The Super Mario Bros Movie, the fan reception has been overwhelmingly positive. The film pulls from both Super Mario Galaxy games — re-released on Switch earlier this year — and delivers a genuine emotional adventure.

Streaming, Blu-ray, and What's Next for Mario

So where can you stream it? Peacock will be the first streaming home for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, though no exact date has been confirmed. Based on the original film's rollout, expect it to land on Peacock sometime this summer, then move to Netflix roughly four months later — following the same theatrical-to-streaming window Universal and Nintendo have established.

Physical media fans aren't left out either. The film drops on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD on June 16, and there's a gorgeous limited edition steelbook designed to look like Rosalina's Storybook — a collector's dream already getting preorders.

Meanwhile, Glen Powell's Star Fox appearance wasn't just fan service. Nintendo also announced a Star Fox remake for Switch 2, confirming that the Mario Cinematic Universe is expanding into a genuine multimedia franchise. Between the movies, games, and whatever Nintendo has cooking next, we're looking at something bigger than anyone predicted.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is available to rent or buy digitally now. Peacock streaming date TBA. 4K/Blu-ray/DVD releases June 16.
