Netflix to Remove Major Pokémon Seasons in September 2025

Netflix’s unpredictable licensing streak with the Pokémon anime is back in the spotlight. Several installments chronicling Ash Ketchum’s journey through the Galar region are once again set to depart from the streamer’s U.S. library — this time on September 10, 2025.

The titles currently on the chopping block include Pokémon Journeys: The Series (2021), Pokémon Master Journeys: The Series (2022), Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series (2023), and the concluding mini-series Pokémon: To Be a Pokémon Master – Ultimate Journeys: The Series (2023). Their departure comes after a confusing cycle of removal notices and renewals, with previous exit dates shifting from September 2024 to October, then to early November, before the shows were briefly saved. This constant back-and-forth has made it difficult for fans to follow the franchise consistently on Netflix.

The timing is especially curious given Netflix’s recent efforts to bulk up its Pokémon catalog. While the Journeys saga may be on its way out, the platform has been busy reintroducing older fan-favorite arcs. On June 1, 2025, Netflix restored the entire Kalos saga — Pokémon the Series: XY, Kalos Quest, and XYZ (Seasons 17–19) — bringing back 145 episodes. Notably, both Pokémon XY and Kalos Quest had been removed in April 2025, only to return two months later. Whether Journeys will receive the same treatment remains to be seen.

Despite these removals, Netflix still holds exclusive streaming rights to the current mainline Pokémon series. In June 2025, the service premiered Pokémon Horizons Season 2: The Search for Laqua – Part 3, continuing the adventures of new protagonists Liko and Roy with another set of 11 episodes.

The streamer is also expanding its original Pokémon offerings. Netflix Animation and Dwarf Studios are currently producing additional episodes of the acclaimed stop-motion series Pokémon Concierge, confirmed by The Pokémon Company in February 2024. Praised for its cozy, feel-good tone, the first season was a breakout hit, earning a flawless 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes from both fans and critics.
