8 Winning Anime Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2023
The winners for the 7th Crunchyroll Anime Awards were announced on March 4, 2023. For this award nomination, anime are selected by a panel of 50 judges.
After that, the selected anime were narrowed down again by fandom voting which took place from January 19-26 2023.
Of the many anime released in 2022, the seven anime listed below have managed to get rid of their competitors, and there are even anime that have won several awards at once.

1. Spy x Family (Best New Series, Best Ending Sequence, Best Comedy, Must Protect at All Costs Character, and Best Supporting Character)
Having action wrapped in comedy, Spy x Family won the Best New Series category.
This is perhaps not surprising, because Anya Forger was everyone's favorite boy.
Although there has not been a successful spy anime before, this anime is able to beat the following competitors.
- Yofukashi no Uta
- Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
- Lycoris Recoil
- Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru
- Paripi Koumei
Spy x Family also won the Best Ending Sequence award with the song "Comedy" by singer Gen Hoshino.
This song has eliminated competitors who are no less cool.

- "Akuma no Ko," Ai Higuchi, Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season Part 2
- "Heart wa Oteage," Airi Suzuki, Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Ultra Romantic
- "Koi no Yukue," Akari Akase, Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru
- "Koshaberi Biyori," FantasticYouth, Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu 2nd Season
- "Yofukashi no Uta," Creepy Nuts, Yofukashi no Uta
Two trophies were not enough, Spy x Family also won Best Comedy.
This anime beats Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Ultra Romantic, Kotarou wa Hitorigurashi, Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru, Isekai Ojisan, and Paripi Koumei, which actually have comedic elements that are just as funny.
Spy x Family's child character, Anya Forger, who has won the hearts of many fans, won two categories, namely Must Protect at All Costs Character and Best Supporting Character.
In that way, he adds to the awards pocketed by this anime made by Wit Studio.
2. One Piece (Best Continuing Series)
An anime series with enough 'stamina' to return to action without sacrificing quality.
Some of the series were nominated for the Best Continuing Series category. Here are the nominations.

Being one of the big three, One Piece is still the top choice for fans.
Even though other nominations are also included in the shounen category, One Piece was able to shift other nominations and win the title of winner in the Best Continuing Series category.
3. Lycoris Recoil (Best Original Anime)
To qualify for the Best Original Anime category, a successful show cannot have light novels, manga, or videos.
That is, this category is not adapted from other forms of work. Some of the anime that were nominated are as follows.
- Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story
- Healer Girl
- Lycoris Recoil
- Chikyuugai Shounen Shoujo
- Vampire in the Garden
- Yurei Deco
That being said, not many fans expected Lycoris Recoil to dominate the 7th Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
However, this anime was able to win the Best Original Anime category even though it doesn't have a really reliable fan base.
4. Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen (Best Action, Best Fantasy, Best Animation, Best Director, and Best Character Design)
Because it managed to beat another stunning action anime, Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen won the winner in the Best Action category.
Apart from this anime, here are other nominations.
- Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season Part 2
- Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
- JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 6: Stone Ocean
- Lycoris Recoil
- Spy x Family
Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen also won Best Fantasy. This anime managed to beat Made in Abyss: Retsujitsu Ougonkyou, Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu Part 2, Overlord IV, Ousama Ranking, and Vanitas no Karte Part 2.
Apart from the two categories mentioned above, Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen also won the Best Animation category.
This anime has eliminated Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku, Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season Part 2, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Ousama Ranking, and Spy x Family.
Director and character designer Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen has also added to this anime's award list.
Haruo Sotozaki won the Best Director award, while Akira Matsushima, who accentuated Japanese elegance, won the Best Character Design award.
5. Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Ultra Romantic (Best Romance)
Successfully eliminated Yofukashi no Uta, Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu 2nd Season, Koi wa Sekai Seifuku no Ato de, Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru, and Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san, Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Ultra Romantic too won Best Romance.
Perhaps not surprising since this anime has been considered the best romance story of all time.
On the MyAnimeList website, it is noted that Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Ultra Romantic has a very good rating, namely 9.07.
This anime has also become the number one romantic anime that fans are most interested in.
There's no doubt that this anime deserves to be the winner in the Best Romance category.
6. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (Best Movie)
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 won the title of winner for the Best Film category after successfully getting rid of a number of competitors who were no less strong.
The competitors include Bubble, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Inu-Ou, One Piece Movie: Red, and Shika no Ou: Yuna to Yakusoku no Tabi.
When it was released, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 managed to become the highest-grossing Japanese film based on the total box office tally recorded by the foreign entertainment industry.
Based on box office reports, this anime film beat Jurassic Park and almost shifted Bohemian Rhapsody which was in 19th place.
7. Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season Part 2 (Best Opening Sequence, Best Anime Song, Best Score, Best Drama, Best VA Performance JP, and Best Main Character)
With the song "The Rumbling" by SiM, Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season Part 2 has managed to defeat the other Best Opening Sequence nominees listed in the following list.

Apart from that, it seems that the fans really like Hiroyuki Sawano's work because Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season Part 2 also won Best Score.

Eren Yeager's voice actor, namely Yuki Kaji, won the Best VA Performance JP category.
For the character Eren Yeager himself, he also won Best Main Character after eliminating other characters, such as Loid Forger from Spy x Family and Marin Kitagawa from Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru.
8. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (Anime of the Year and Best VA Performance EN)
Although not yet a winner in other categories, this anime managed to win the title of winner for the main category of Anime of the Year.
