One Piece: Is this Luffy's Final Gear?

The Straw Hat crew have experienced rapid developments in terms of strength since they first appeared in the One Piece series until now.

However, Luffy is the figure whose strength development is the most noticeable. At first, he just relied on Gomu Gomu haphazardly now Luffy can arrange it according to his wishes.

In addition, Luffy is also now able to master high-level Haki techniques.

Talking about Luffy's devil fruit, it turns out that his real name is Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. Luffy also has to rely on Gear 1-3 to face strong enemies. In fact, in the past to do Gear 3 Luffy had to sacrifice a lot of stamina.

He will turn very short for a while after using his ability.

However, now that problem is no longer experienced by Luffy. In fact, Luffy was able to get a new form, namely Gear 4 during his two-year training at Rusukaina.

Luffy also has various transformations such as Snakeman or Boundman. With the big battle on Onigashima in the Wano Country arc, many One Piece fans speculated that Luffy would access Gear 5.

And it turns out that this speculation was proven in chapter 1044 yesterday. Luffy, by accident, manages to awaken his devil fruit ability Nika. The awakening power of this devil fruit is extraordinary.

We can see how Luffy can easily grip Kaido's dragon body with his bare hands. In fact, Luffy easily slammed Kaido's body.

This means that Luffy's physical increase in Gear 5 is really very powerful.

Not to mention, as Gorosei said that the devil fruit is able to make Luffy fight very fiercely and extraordinary according to the imagination in him.

The Gorosei himself also called Nika's devil fruit the most terrible power in the world.

Not the Last Gear?

However, the question then is will Gear 5 be Luffy's final form? There are many fans who speculate that it is possible that Luffy will still have the peak abilities of his Gear form.

The speculation is inspired by the gear or gears of vehicles, especially cars, where most vehicles have Gear up to 6.

However, there is still no idea what the awesomeness of Gear 6 will be if that is indeed the case.

This is considering Gear 5 itself is already extraordinary as it appeared in chapters 1044 to 1049 yesterday.

Although the speculation is quite interesting, in fact the information about this has already been presented by Oda Sensei in yesterday's chapter.

In one of the panels, where Luffy introduces his new power as Gear Fifth, he says clearly that it is already his peak power.

That is, with Gear 5 being his peak power, it is unlikely for Luffy to then get a new power like Gear 6. So, we can assume that Gear 5 might be Luffy's last form.

However, what needs to be noted is that Gear 6 is not impossible.

Even though the chance for it to appear is small, it is possible that Oda will present it.

Why is that? Because, Luffy was saying that it was the peak of his strength and not saying that he had put all his strength into it.

There are some fans who even think that what Luffy showed against Kaido yesterday was the "peak power" of Gear 4.

Meaning, maybe we still haven't really seen how Luffy's final form will be. Oda Sensei may have deliberately saved it to appear at the end of the series later which will be the climax of the entire One Piece story.

Regardless of the speculation, we must admit that Nika's devil fruit awakening is so powerful that it can make the most powerful creatures in the world subjugate.

Reverse Gear?

Talking about the peak of Luffy's power there is also an interesting speculation regarding this.

In addition to reaching Gear 6, there is also speculation that Luffy will not reach Gear 6 but Reverse Gear aka reverse gear as the peak of his strength. What does it mean?

In the car's transmission system, although there are those that reach a gear ratio of 6, there are not many of them.

The majority of the maximum gear or gear system in the vehicle is 5 aka gear 5 or gear 5. Furthermore, in that gear there is a reverse gear or reverse gear.

Then, what does Reverse Gear mean in the context of Luffy? In this case, Luffy will not use his devil fruit powers.

Luffy will maximize the power he has. For example, the ability Haki .

Not to mention that Luffy's physical strength, speed, agility, and so on can be used to deal with strong enemies.

Why then does Reverse Gear mean not using Gear at all? In the speculation it is explained that

Luffy may be taking preventive measures to avoid having his devil fruit powers stolen, specifically by Blackbeard.

As we know, there has been a lot of speculation among fans saying that Blackbeard will be Luffy's opponent at the end of the story.

Assuming that the speculation is correct, it means that Luffy needs a strategy and a way to deal with it. Luffy can't just use the power of the devil fruit he has, because the risk is very big.

Luffy could have lost his devil fruit power, due to the ability of Yami Yami's devil fruit. As appeared in the previous story, the devil fruit is able to neutralize the power of other devil fruits.

Based on that, there needs to be another way to be able to deal with Blackbeard where he will not involve the power of the devil fruit.

After all, throughout the 25-plus years of the One Piece series, Luffy has faced almost all types of enemies who have devil fruit powers.

That is, Luffy is already very experienced. And Luffy can use this experience to face his last enemy.
