The Towns & Cities that Make Up Halton

If you're planning a move to the Halton region of Ontario, one of the most important aspects is location.

The Halton region itself is located in what's called the "Golden Horseshoe of Southern Ontario" and includes the towns of Milton, Oakville, and Halton Hills, as well as the city of Burlington, all of which are considered part of the Greater Toronto Area.

To help you decide which might be the best fit for your next move before purchasing a home on Halton real estate, this is what you need to know.

Burlington

Located between Toronto and Niagara Falls, Burlington has consistently been ranked as one of the most liveable cities in Canada.

Those who've moved here often note reasons like its close proximity to the big city as well as offering easy access to outdoor adventure in the Hamilton-Niagara region for hiking and many other recreational activities.

Wine enthusiasts will find plenty of wineries for touring and tasting too. The sense of community, larger lot sizes, and affordability all make it desirable too.

Burlington is also known for its thriving art scene, gastronomy, historic architecture, gorgeous gardens, and green spaces.

There are multiple parks like Spencer Smith Park, the Mount Nemo Conservation Area, and the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve Niagara Escarpment.

Oakville

Oakville is located on Lake Ontario between Toronto and Hamilton.

A large town with a population close to 200,000, it's one of the most affluent in the Greater Toronto Area, home to many private schools.

Residents enjoy beautiful lake views and a downtown area that includes a mix of modern and historic architecture housing a wide range of restaurants, shops, and services. There are more than 2,400 acres of parkland, over 20 golf courses in the area, galleries to browse, theaters, and frequent festivals.

For those who want access to a good hospital, or are looking for a job working at one, there's a state-of-the-art community hospital, too.

Halton Hills

Often ranked among Ontario's best places to live, Halton Hills is a great place to enjoy a high-quality lifestyle in a more serene setting.

If you're looking for a quiet community that's surrounded by natural beauty that includes the Bruce Trail and Niagara Escarpment, it may be the perfect place for you.

Besides the picturesque nature, this small town offers plenty of shops, eateries, and outstanding schools.

Residents also enjoy easy access to the amenities in larger Mississauga while Toronto is about a 45-minute drive away.

Milton

Located 25 miles west of Downtown Toronto, Milton sits at the edge of the Niagara Escarpment.

As it offers many of the important factors for a quality lifestyle, including being safe and affordable with lots of amenities and outdoor activities, it's also often recognized as one of the top places to live in Ontario, and even the entire country of Canada.

When you're in the mood for city life, concerts, or catching a game, Toronto is close by, while Mississauga is easily reached for shopping at the largest shopping center in the province.

While you'll have access to lots of outstanding shopping, dining, and other attractions, when you move to Milton, you'll appreciate its small, hometown feel with friendly neighbors, open farmland, and historic 19th-century homes.
