MobLAND Season 2 Is Here — And Tom Hardy Turns Up the Madness on Paramount+

If you thought MobLAND's first season was unhinged, buckle up. The second season of Guy Ritchie's Irish crime family drama has officially landed on Paramount+, and it brings far more explosive energy than most viewers probably signed up for.

Season one introduced us to Pierce Brosnan as the dastardly Conrad Harrigan and Helen Mirren as his wife Maeve — two Irish mobsters who somehow managed to steal every scene despite playing characters that made everyone cringe and laugh in equal measure. Now Tom Hardy steps into the spotlight as their fixer Harry Da Souza, turning the whole operation into something closer to organized chaos.

From Prison to Power Play: What Changed?

Both Brosnan and Mirren confirmed in recent interviews that Conrad and Maeve are "miraculously" out of jail after the first season's cliffhanger. But don't expect them to retire to Florida and play shuffleboard. As Brosnan teased to The Hollywood Reporter: "This second season kicks off with a bang — many bangs, actually — at the dog track".

The Harrigans are back in full form, which means plenty of moral compromises, questionable financial schemes, and absolutely zero chill. Brosnan described his character Conrad as "pure lunacy" compared to anything else he's played — and we should take that literally, because even Brosnan's James Bond and action-movie roles pale next to this manic Irish gangster.

Mirren wasn't far behind in describing her own comeback. "I was wondering how that was going to happen," she laughed when discussing Maeve's jail exit. Clearly, Maeve Harrigan is exactly the kind of criminal who would plan a breakout around tea time and still look fabulous doing it.

Tom Hardy Brings Serious Muscle (and Menace)

The biggest addition this season is Tom Hardy, finally getting his due screen time as Harry Da Souza. In the first season, Harry served as Conrad and Maeve's loyal right-hand man, keeping their operation running while they caused problems. This year, the scales tip harder toward him. Hardy plays him as the faithful fixer holding everything together — but sources suggest the balance of power is shifting faster than a three-card monte game.

Ritchie originally cast Hardy knowing he'd be essential from the start, and now that Hardy is fully front and center, expect every episode to have him doing something borderline insane while maintaining that signature intense calm. It's basically the same approach he brought to Peaky Blinders' Thomas Shelby — minus the flat cap, plus considerably more criminal mayhem.

A Supporting Cast That Reads Like a British Actor's Dream

Mirren herself called the supporting players "some of the really, truly great British actors" — and looking at the roster, she's right.

• Janet McTeer returns as Kat Macallister, bringing a new rival fixer named Frankie (played by Johnny Flynn), who hilariously doubles as a germaphobe — an unusual trait for someone whose job involves getting dirty.
• Toby Jones comes back as corrupt former cop Colin Tattersall, continuing his long-running partnership with the Harrigans that borders on toxic friendship.
• Brosnan also hinted at new players coming into the mix, teasing "an undercurrent and a malevolence that is coming upon the stage."

Jez Butterworth's Scripts Still Carry the Show

What makes MobLAND genuinely watchable — beyond its irresistible lead trio — is the writing. Creator and showrunner Jez Butterworth, best known as one of Britain's top playwrights, delivers dialogue sharp enough to cut glass. Brosnan didn't mince words praising the scripts: "We're all incredibly appreciative of how brilliant our scripts are."

Butterworth's theatrical background clearly shows in MobLAND's structure. Each season plays almost like a stage production where the actors get extended monologues, elaborate conversations, and perfectly timed reveals. The dog-track premiere set up in season two sounds like exactly this kind of theatrical set piece — high stakes, confined space, and enough tension to make anyone sweat.
