Marvel Studios just dropped the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer at D23 2026, and millennials all over the internet are losing it. The footage gives us our first real look at Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom, aka Doctor Doom, speaking on screen for the first time since his shocking casting reveal.

Directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, the directors behind Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026. Marvel also launched Infinity Vision advance tickets alongside the trailer, signaling massive confidence in what could be the biggest MCU event since Endgame.

Doctor Doom Finally Speaks

The trailer opens with Doom's masked face and that unmistakable Downey voice, colder and more menacing than anything we heard from Tony Stark. According to reports from the D23 panel, Doom raises an army of Sentinels from the dead, setting up a multiversal war that pulls in heroes from every corner of the Marvel multiverse.

Fans immediately noticed the trailer teases major Marvel comebacks. Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, Anthony Mackie suits up as Captain America, and Pedro Pascal makes his Avengers debut as Reed Richards alongside Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm after their introduction in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Who Else Is Back?

The confirmed cast list is stacked. Tom Holland is expected to appear as Spider-Man fresh off Spider-Man: Brand New Day, while Florence Pugh brings Yelena Belova back after Thunderbolts*. X-Men legends including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden are also confirmed, bridging the Fox X-Men universe into the MCU once and for all.

One of the biggest talking points is what the trailer does NOT show. No Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, no Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool yet, which has fans convinced Marvel is saving them as a surprise. The Direct and other outlets suggest the trailer is deliberately misleading, hiding at least two major deaths.

Why This Matters for Marvel

After a rocky Phase Five, Marvel needs Doomsday to work. The film leads directly into Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for December 2027, which will reportedly reboot parts of the MCU. With ticket pre-sales already beating Marvel's previous records three months out, early signs point to a genuine comeback.

If you grew up on the Infinity Saga, December cannot come fast enough. Doctor Doom is here, the Avengers are outgunned, and the multiverse war is about to begin.
