Apple TV+ Just Dropped a Comic-Con Bombshell: Matchbox, Neuromancer, and Mayday Are Coming

Matchbox The Movie still with John Cena

Apple TV+ Came to Comic-Con and Stole the Show

San Diego Comic-Con is usually Marvel and DC's playground, but this year Apple TV+ showed up with receipts. The streamer teased three massive projects — Matchbox The Movie, Neuromancer, and Mayday — and honestly, the lineup is stacked enough to make any other studio nervous. While Marvel was busy unveiling its own slate, Apple quietly proved it's playing the big-leagues game now, and it's playing to win.

Matchbox The Movie: John Cena, tiny cars, huge action

Let's start with the loudest one. Matchbox The Movie got a high-octane first trailer that's basically a love letter to the classic miniature Mattel toy cars — and it stars John Cena, with Jessica Biel along for the ride. From Apple Original Films and Mattel Studios (the same crew behind Barbie and Masters of the Universe), the movie follows Cena's character as he goes on the run — from the CIA, no less — in what looks like a nonstop car-chase extravaganza packed with practical stunts and nostalgia-fueled set pieces. It premieres globally on Apple TV+ on October 9, 2026. Mark the calendar.

Neuromancer: the "unfilmable" novel finally gets its shot

Then there's Neuromancer, based on William Gibson's legendary 1984 cyberpunk novel — the book that basically invented the genre and inspired everything from The Matrix to Ghost in the Shell. Hollywood has been calling it "unfilmable" for decades, but Apple's 10-episode series stars Callum Turner as Case, a damaged top-tier hacker pulled into a web of digital espionage and high-stakes crime, with Briana Middleton as his dangerously skilled partner Molly. The Comic-Con teaser looked gloriously gritty — neon-drenched, paranoid, and faithful to the source material's tone. It lands on January 22, 2027. If you're a sci-fi fan, this is appointment viewing.

Mayday: the mystery teaser everyone's talking about

And then there's Mayday — the one Apple kept closest to its chest. The teaser was short, moody, and gave away almost nothing, which of course made the internet lose its collective mind. Speculation is running wild, and that's exactly how Apple likes it. Sometimes the best marketing is just letting people wonder.

Between Cena doing car stunts, Gibson's cyberpunk masterpiece finally getting a proper adaptation, and a mystery project with serious buzz, Apple TV+ just made its 2026-2027 slate impossible to ignore. Which one are you most hyped for? Drop it in the comments — we're already counting down to October.
