Marvel's 'Wonder Man' Renewed for Season 2 — Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley Return to Disney+

In a move that surprised absolutely nobody — and yet still felt like a victory — Marvel Studios has officially renewed Wonder Man for Season 2 on Disney+. The series, which debuted its eight-episode first season in January 2026, has been named one of the year's best shows by Rolling Stone and earned a passionate fanbase that Marvel rarely sees for non-Avengers properties.
What Made Wonder Man Special
Created by Destin Daniel Cretton (who also directed Shang-Chi), Wonder Man stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, a struggling actor who gains superpowers and must navigate Hollywood's absurdity while becoming a hero. Sir Ben Kingsley co-stars as Trevor Slattery — yes, the fake Mandarin from Iron Man 3 — in a role that's somehow both hilarious and deeply moving.
The show leaned into comedy and meta-commentary in a way Marvel rarely does. It's a show about making superhero content, which sounds like it shouldn't work, but absolutely does. Cretton dismissed claims that Marvel wasn't committed to the project, telling press: "We cared about this from day one."
A Rare Second Season
Marvel Studios rarely grants second seasons. Before Wonder Man, only Loki and Daredevil: Born Again had earned that distinction. The renewal signals that Marvel sees long-term potential in Simon Williams — especially as the MCU expands toward Avengers: Secret Wars.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II broke his silence on the renewal, saying: "People see so much of themselves in Simon. Everyone relates to having a dream." The Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor — who originally pursued architecture before turning to acting — has found one of his most beloved roles in the Marvel universe.
What's Next for the MCU on Disney+
Wonder Man Season 2 joins a packed Disney+ slate that includes VisionQuest (completing the WandaVision trilogy in October 2026), Spider-Noir, and the recently concluded Ironheart. Marvel is clearly investing in its streaming universe as theatrical releases like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey dominate the box office.
No release date for Season 2 has been announced, but expect it sometime in late 2027. In the meantime, if you haven't watched Season 1, do yourself a favor. It's the most fun Marvel has had in years.
