Coach Prime Gets the Netflix Treatment — Deion Sanders Documentary Coming 2026
From NFL Legend to College Football Phenomenon
Netflix announced a comprehensive documentary series chronicling the life and career of Deion Sanders, the NFL Hall of Famer turned University of Colorado head coach. The multi-part series, simply titled Coach Prime, will premiere in late 2026 and promises unprecedented access to one of sports' most charismatic figures.
More Than Just Football
The documentary will cover Sanders' entire journey: from his legendary NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, and Baltimore Ravens, to his transformative coaching tenure at Jackson State University, and finally his current role leading the Colorado Buffaloes. Director Jason Hehir, who helmed ESPN's acclaimed The Last Dance, will lead the project.
Behind the Persona
"Deion Sanders is one of the most fascinating figures in American sports history," said Hehir in a statement. "He's a two-sport professional athlete, a cultural icon, and now a coach who's revolutionizing college football. This is a story about reinvention, legacy, and what it means to be authentic in a world that constantly demands performance."
The series will feature interviews with NFL legends like Jerry Rice, Michael Irvin, and Emmitt Smith, as well as current college football stars Sanders has coached. Netflix secured the rights after a competitive bidding war with ESPN and Amazon Prime Video. With Sanders' magnetic personality and Netflix's track record of sports documentaries like The Last Chance U and Quarterback, Coach Prime is poised to be one of 2026's must-watch docuseries.
