Netflix Just Dropped 25 Horror Movies for October — Including Evil Dead, Three Psychos, and a Terrifying New Original
Spooky Season on Netflix Has Never Looked This Stacked
Netflix said "happy October" and then dumped 25 horror movies onto the platform on a single day. October 1st was an absolute bloodbath of new additions, and if you're the type who binges horror films all month leading up to Halloween, your queue just got dangerously full.
The headliners are no joke: Evil Dead (2013), The Strangers, Friday the 13th, Hush, Split, The Menu, The Sixth Sense, and Red Dragon. Surrounding those heavy hitters are Lake Placid, Dracula, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, both Ouija films, Happy Death Day 2U, both A Haunted House comedies, and — for reasons Netflix apparently felt made sense — all five Twilight movies.
The Psycho Trilogy Is the Real Gem
Buried in that massive October 1st dump is something genuinely special: the complete theatrical Psycho run. Hitchcock's 1960 masterpiece, Psycho II (1983), and Psycho III (1986) are all streaming together on Netflix for the first time in years.
Here's why that matters: Psycho III was directed by Anthony Perkins himself — the man who played Norman Bates. It's the rare franchise entry where the star was also behind the camera, and it's stranger, sadder, and more openly romantic about Norman than anyone expected. Psycho II, directed by Richard Franklin, treats the sequel as a genuine continuation rather than a slasher cash-grab. Having the full trilogy on one platform is the kind of accidental curation that makes a great weekend.
Netflix Originals: 'Below' Is the One to Watch
But the month's real marquee event is Below, a six-episode limited series premiering October 8th. Created by Jesse McKeown, it stars Josh Hartnett, Mackenzie Davis, and Charlie Heaton in a remote Newfoundland town where something massive lurks beneath the water. Early footage focuses more on the town and its characters than the creature — which, if horror history is any guide, usually means the show is confident in its storytelling.
Later in the month, The Boogeyman and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies arrive in the first week, followed by Cocaine Bear on October 14th. Netflix also has Unabomber, a psychological thriller exploring the mind of Ted Kaczynski, plus Florence Pugh's East of Eden adaptation for those who want their October viewing a little more literary.
Between the catalog dumps and the originals, Netflix is clearly trying to own Halloween 2026. And honestly? With Ben Affleck's Animals, Josh Hartnett's Below, and 25 horror classics all under one roof, they might just pull it off.
All titles are streaming now on Netflix. Below premieres October 8th.
