Richard Osman Is 'In Talks With Netflix' to Turn 'We Solve Murders' Into a TV Series — and He Wants Meryl Streep

First he made The Thursday Murder Club a global phenomenon. Now Richard Osman is hinting that his other runaway bestselling mystery might be heading to the small screen — and the Netflix rumor mill is already buzzing. During an appearance on The One Show, the British crime novelist let slip that an adaptation of "We Solve Murders" is being discussed with the streamer. "Well, I can't say. But yes. Certainly that's what we're up to at the moment with our friends at Netflix," Osman teased. "That'll be very exciting."

A Fresh Case for Netflix

Published in 2024, We Solve Murders follows private security officer Amy Wheeler, who gets framed for the deaths of three clients and has to clear her name with help from a celebrity novelist and her retired father-in-law. The book rocketed onto the UK Official Top 50 and The New York Times bestseller list. The sequel, We Chase Shadows, drops on September 15. And if this project moves forward, it would be Osman's first-ever book adapted into a television series.

The author even has dream casting in mind — he wants Meryl Streep to play Rosie, one of the main trio. So far there's no word on casting, showrunners, or a release window, but the Osman x Netflix relationship already has a proven track record.

Osman Is 2-for-2 With Netflix

This wouldn't be the bestselling novelist's first rodeo with the streamer. Last year, Netflix turned his 2020 smash The Thursday Murder Club into a full-length movie starring Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and Ben Kingsley, with Osman on board as an executive producer. The film pulled in an enormous 79.5 million views and earned a solid 77% on Rotten Tomatoes. After that success, it's no surprise Netflix is hungry for more of his work — though Osman has already teased he'd like to adapt the remaining Thursday Murder Club books himself.

A Stacked Autumn for Mystery Fans

Osman's news lands during one of the busiest streaming seasons of year. Netflix is also rolling out Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story on September 17, the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run arc on September 25, and The Gentlemen Season 2 with Theo James. Over on Apple TV+, Mayday starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh is already making waves, while Glen Powell's Chad Powers Season 2 just claimed the #1 spot on Hulu. But for cozy-crime fans, Osman's announcement is the most comforting news of the month.

Nothing is official yet — but if Netflix locks in We Solve Murders, Osman's name is about to get a lot bigger.
