Netflix Is Wiping Out Half Its Hit Shows in 2026 — Emily in Paris, The Night Agent, and More Are Gone for Good
If you've been feeling like Netflix is in a cancel-everything mood this year, you're not imagining things. 2026 has been absolutely brutal for fans of the streaming giant, and the latest wave of announcements proves it's not slowing down anytime soon. From rom-com darlings to gritty thrillers, Netflix is sending a whole lot of fan-favorite shows packing — some with proper finales, others without any warning at all.
The Shows Getting a Proper Goodbye
On the slightly less painful side, a few heavy hitters are at least getting the dignity of a final season. Emily in Paris, starring Lily Collins, was confirmed on May 21 to end with its sixth season, currently filming on location in Greece. Creator Darren Star called it "the trip of a lifetime" and promised the final chapter would deliver everything fans love about the show. No release date yet, but expect it later this year.
Then there's The Night Agent, the Gabriel Basso-led action thriller that exploded onto the scene as one of Netflix's biggest hits ever. Netflix confirmed earlier in May that Season 4 will be its last, and showrunner Shawn Ryan promised to make the final season "one our fans will never forget."
The Lincoln Lawyer is also bowing out — Season 5 will be the final ride for Mickey Haller, played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. Co-showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez said they wanted to give the character "a proper conclusion," which is more than most Netflix shows get.
On the lighter side, Survival of the Thickest will wrap up with Season 3, premiering July 2. Michelle Buteau's dramedy about a stylish fashion stylist has been a fan favorite, and Buteau teased that the final season will be "lived in, lived out loud." And Tyler Perry's Beauty in Black got renewed for a third and final season even before Season 2 finished airing — a sign that Netflix at least knows when to let a show go out on top.
The Shows That Got Axed Without Warning
Now for the painful part. Netflix also quietly canceled a bunch of shows this year that barely got a chance to breathe. The Abandons, the big-budget Western starring Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson, lasted just one season before getting the axe. The show spent only two weeks in Netflix's Top 10 before disappearing, and creator Kurt Sutter reportedly walked off the production before it even wrapped.
The Vince Staples Show, a critically acclaimed satirical comedy co-created with Kenya Barris, was canceled after two seasons despite strong reviews. It's the classic Netflix story: critics loved it, but the algorithm didn't.
Then there's With Love, Meghan, Meghan Markle's lifestyle series that premiered in spring 2025 featuring celebrity guests like Mindy Kaling and Chrissy Teigen. Despite getting mixed-to-negative reviews, it survived long enough for a Season 2 — only to reportedly get dropped before a third season could happen.
Tyler Perry also took a hit with Miss Governor, which was quietly canceled after one season. Star Terri J. Vaughn broke the news on Instagram, saying she was "quite heartbroken" and had been "sitting with it, letting myself just feel it."
What's the Verdict?
Netflix's 2026 cancellation spree is a reminder of how ruthless the streaming game really is. Whether it's Emily in Paris wrapping on its own terms or The Vince Staples Show getting axed despite critical praise, the pattern is clear: Netflix doesn't hesitate. If the numbers don't justify it, the show is done.
The good news? At least some of these — The Night Agent Season 4, The Lincoln Lawyer Season 5, Survival of the Thickest Season 3 — are giving fans one last chance to say goodbye. The bad news? We're probably going to lose a few more before 2026 is over.
What's the one Netflix cancellation that hurt you the most? Drop it in the comments — misery loves company, after all.
