Believe Again: Ted Lasso Is Back on Apple TV+

After a three-year hiatus, Ted Lasso Season 4 has finally arrived on Apple TV+, and the reception has been... complicated. The beloved comedy, created by and starring Jason Sudeikis, returned in early August with new episodes featuring Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca, Juno Temple as Keeley, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, and newcomer Tanya Reynolds in a scene-stealing role.

The big question heading into Season 4 was simple: Can a show that wrapped up its story so beautifully come back without losing what made it special? So far, critics are split. The Rotten Tomatoes score has bounced between 65% and 72% as reviews trickle in — a far cry from the near-universal acclaim of Seasons 1 through 3.

What the Critics Are Saying

Forbes critic Hannah Abraham wrote that the premiere "has moments of genuine warmth" but that the writing "repeatedly spells out simple beats" in a way the original run never did. Episode 2 fared slightly better, with Abraham noting that the addition of Tanya Reynolds — best known for Sex Education — brings a fresh energy the show desperately needed.

On the other hand, several critics praised the show's willingness to evolve. Ted's journey takes him into new territory this season — no more AFC Richmond sidelines. Instead, Season 4 explores what happens when Ted Lasso's relentless optimism collides with situations that can't be fixed with a pep talk and a homemade cookie.

The Verdict So Far

Whether Ted Lasso Season 4 recaptures the magic depends on what you loved about the show. If it was the comfort and charm of Ted being Ted, you'll find plenty of that here. If you wanted the show to push into darker, more complex storytelling — well, it's trying. Apple TV+ clearly believes this franchise has more life, and with Sudeikis still invested and the supporting cast firing on all cylinders, Season 4 might just earn its existence. Give it three episodes before you decide. (^\_^)
