Stranger Things: Tales From '85 Season 2 Lands a September Release Date — And Hawkins' Newest Threat Is Anything But Friendly

Netflix Is Sending Everyone Back to Hawkins Sooner Than You Think
Just when you thought the Stranger Things saga was over and done with, Netflix is pulling us all back in — and honestly? We're not even mad. The streamer has officially confirmed that Stranger Things: Tales From '85 Season 2 premieres on September 17, 2026, which is less than a month away. Alongside the announcement came a brand-new first look at what's shaping up to be an even weirder ride through everyone's favorite cursed Indiana town.
For the uninitiated, Tales From '85 is the animated spin-off of the Duffer Brothers' monster hit, set in 1985 — right between the events of Stranger Things Seasons 2 and 3. Season 1 dropped back on April 23 with ten episodes, got renewed almost immediately, and now the gang is coming back for round two at record speed.
A Valentine's Day Disaster Waiting to Happen
So what's the new season about? According to Netflix Tudum, Season 2 picks up right after the Season 1 finale, with Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Will, Lucas, newcomer Nikki Baxter (voiced by Odessa A'zion), and yes — Max — back in action. The catch? So are the strange creatures lurking around their seemingly quaint town.
With Valentine's Day just around the corner in the show's timeline, mysterious "ghostly" apparitions and a genuinely unsettling swarm of hate sprites are wreaking havoc across Hawkins. The party has to uncover the truth behind these paranormal events before a brand-new gate to the Upside Down gets ripped open. Because apparently one gate was never enough.
Showrunner Eric Robles also teased a deceptively cute problem brewing under the surface: mysterious flowers are popping up all over town — and Nikki and Max are scheming to sell them everywhere. Spoiler alert: that's going to make everything so much worse. "We think that the kids are going back to their normal lives, but we start to discover that these flowers are popping up all over Hawkins," Robles told Netflix Tudum.
The Stranger Things Machine Isn't Slowing Down
Here's the thing that makes this release interesting: the main series is officially done. Stranger Things wrapped its final season and said goodbye to the flagship storyline — yet the franchise itself is clearly just getting warmed up. Between this fast-turnaround animated spin-off and more universe expansion on the horizon, Netflix is making it very clear that Hawkins is a goldmine it has zero intention of abandoning.
The quick renewal also says something about how well Season 1 performed. Getting a second season greenlit within days of premiere — and landing less than six months later — is basically warp speed for a Netflix animated series.
- Premiere date: September 17, 2026, only on Netflix
- Setting: 1985, between Stranger Things Seasons 2 and 3
