Stephen King's 'Carrie' Gets a Full TV Series on Prime Video — And It Looks Genuinely Terrifying

Carrie White Is Back — And This Time She Gets a Whole Season

Stephen King adaptations have been on a tear lately, and Prime Video just dropped one of the most ambitious ones yet: a full TV series adaptation of Carrie, premiering this October 2026. Forget the 1976 classic with Sissy Spacek. Forget the 2013 remake with Chloë Grace Moretz. This time, the story of Carrie White gets the room to breathe — and terrorize — across an entire season.

The series stars Summer H. Howell as the tormented Carrie White, a misfit high-schooler who has spent her entire life hidden behind the walls of her home with her fiercely religious mother. If you've read the novel, you know the bones of the story. But Prime Video's version expands the world significantly, diving deeper into the supporting characters and the small-town dynamics that make Carrie's eventual reckoning feel earned.

Why a Series Format Changes Everything

Here's the thing about Carrie as a movie: it's always felt rushed. The buildup to prom night — the bullying, the isolation, the slow discovery of telekinetic powers — gets compressed into 90 minutes. A TV series lets those dynamics simmer. We get to know Sue Snell, Chris Hargensen, and Tommy Ross as actual characters, not just plot devices moving toward the bucket of pig's blood.

Early clips released by IGN show a surprisingly grounded approach. The horror isn't just in the telekinesis — it's in the social cruelty, the religious extremism, and the suffocating loneliness that defines Carrie's existence. Think Euphoria meets The Exorcist, with King's signature supernatural twist.

Prime Video's October Horror Push

Carrie isn't Prime Video's only October trick. The streaming service is going all-in on horror and genre content this month. The full James Bond catalog arrived on October 1st, and alongside Carrie, viewers can dive into Masterplan, a new espionage thriller, plus returning favorites like The Boys universe content.

The timing is perfect. October is horror season, and Prime Video is betting that a prestige King adaptation can compete with Netflix's stacked horror lineup (more on that in a bit). With Hulu pushing Peter Dinklage and Rachel Zegler's fantasy films, and Disney+ leaning into family-friendly Halloween specials, Prime Video carved out its niche with pure, unfiltered terror.

If you're a Stephen King fan who always felt the Carrie movies left too much on the table, this series was made for you. The first three episodes drop this month on Prime Video, with weekly releases following.

Carrie is streaming now on Prime Video. New episodes release weekly through November 2026.
