The Mandalorian & Grogu Streams September 2 on Disney+ — Din Djarin Comes Home

Din Djarin and Grogu Jump From Theaters Back to Your Couch

The Mandalorian & Grogu made history as the Star Wars franchise's big leap from Disney+ series to full theatrical movie earlier this year — and now it's coming full circle. The film starts streaming on Disney+ on September 2, alongside a LEGO Star Wars retelling special, a behind-the-scenes companion podcast, and frankly enough Mando content to fill an entire long weekend.

Directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Dave Filoni, the movie continues the story set up across three seasons of The Mandalorian, following bounty hunter Din Djarin and his Force-sensitive foundling Grogu as they mop up the scattered remnants of the Empire. It's classic Mando formula — cloaks, blasters, cute cooing noises — supersized for the big screen with a proper blockbuster budget behind it.

Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver Lead the Cast

Pedro Pascal returns as Din Djarin (voice and the occasional helmet-off moment), with the big new addition being Sigourney Weaver joining the galaxy far, far away in a key role that Lucasfilm kept under wraps until opening weekend. Kate Sackhoff is back as Bo-Katan Kryze, Carl Weathers' legacy as Greef Karga looms large over the story, and composer Ludwig Goransson delivers another sweeping score that somehow makes a tiny green puppet's theme the most hummable music in modern Star Wars.

The film's theatrical run earlier this year proved there was still genuine hunger for Star Wars on the big screen after the uneven response to the sequel trilogy and the long gap since The Rise of Skywalker. With Ahsoka Season 2, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, and the upcoming Rey film all in the pipeline, the franchise finally feels like it has momentum again.

Triple Mando Day: Movie, LEGO Special and Podcast

Disney+ is going all-in on September 2. Alongside the movie, subscribers get LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian — a brick-built retelling of the show's three seasons with Rosario Dawson and Giancarlo Esposito voicing their roles — plus the Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu Podcast featuring Weaver, Pascal, and Goransson telling behind-the-scenes stories. Add the weekly Countdown to Avengers: Doomsday podcast hosted by Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel herself) and Frank Alvarez, and September is basically geek Christmas on Disney+.

Don't forget the rest of the month's slate either: Toy Story 5 arrives September 23, American Horror Story Season 13 lands September 24, and The Drop: A Snowfall Saga with Gail Bean drops September 8. But September 2 belongs to the bounty hunter and the baby.

Bottom line: if you missed Mando on the big screen, your second chance is here. This is the way — to the couch.
